Timothy D. O'Brien, DVM, PhD
Dr. O’Brien is a veterinary anatomic pathologist in the Veterinary Population Medicine Department in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his DVM and PhD (Pathology) degrees from the University of Minnesota and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (anatomic pathology). Following completion of his PhD he joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 and is currently Professor of Pathology. He has also previously been a Visiting Scientist in the Endocrine Research Unit at the Mayo Clinic and, more recently, Visiting Scientist in the Stem Cell Institute at the University of Minnesota. He is currently a Member of the Stem Cell Institute and is Pathologist for the Schulze Diabetes Institute.
Tim and his wife Karina Burger, DVM, own a 57 acre farm which they share with 10 Alaskan Malamute dogs, 5 horses, and 9 cats. He is an avid dog sledder and so actually looks forward to the Minnesota winter. He and his wife also participate in obedience and agility training with their dogs and recently finished an AKC conformation championship on one of their Mals.
