One Health Workshop - Letter from Dr. William Hueston

Dear Colleagues,

We are sponsoring a one day workshop in conjunction with colleagues from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to catalyze new “One Health” partnerships focusing on zoonoses, vectorborne and foodborne diseases.

The CDC contingent will be led by Dr. Lonnie King, Director of the new National Center for Zoonoses, Vector borne and Enteric Diseases.  He will be accompanied by several CDC Division Directors and scientists.

The workshop will be held May 14, 8am to 5pm, in the Johnson Great Room of the McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak Street S.E., Minneapolis.  Lunch and breaks will be provided.  Should you be interested in participating, the success of the meeting is based on you bringing a potential partner from government or industry. This may include a State or Federal government official or a representative from a producer group, a commodity organization or a private company.

Promoting “One Health” partnerships at the intersection of animal and public health necessitates that we forge new collaborations and leverage public and private resources around shared interests.  The workshop objective is to identify 2-3 new initiatives with a high likelihood of success in fostering government-industry-academic collaborations in teaching, research or service.   We will be offering seed grants of $10,000 each to help kick off several of these new collaborations.
