The Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) plays a key role in protecting people from animal diseases and food-borne illnesses. Since its inception in 2001, CAHFS has responded to emerging animal health, public health, and food safety issues by partnering with local, national and international stakeholders to improve food safety and public health. High-quality work that is based on interdisciplinary engagement and responsiveness to the issues at hand are the hallmark of CAHFS.

Summer Public Health Institute

PHI (May 26 - June 12) offers courses in nine interest areas: Culturally Responsive Public Health Practice, Environmental Health Sciences, Food Protection and Safety, Global Health, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Public Health Leadership and Management, Public Health Preparedness, Response and Recovery, Research Methods and Women and Child Health and Nutrition.

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today released information on antimicrobials used in food animals between 2009 and 2013
  • Total medically important antibiotics for use in food animals increased from 7.7 million kg in 2009 to 9.2 million kg in 2013
  • Tetracyclines are the most common class of medically important antimicrobial drugs used in food animal production
