Dr. Mike Barletta is studying the use of sedation vs manual restraint in procedures in which sedation is optional.  Procedures in this category include ultrasound and x-rays that are not so painful that the dog must be sedated.  We are looking for healthy dogs over 6 months of age, which have not had sedation or anesthesia in the previous 7 days, and have no known sensitivity to dexmedetomidine. All patients will receive increased individual attention during the procedure and recovery period after it. All clients receive $40 off their bill, which covers the cost of sedation if the dog is in the sedation group, or reduces the overall bill if the dog is in the manual restraint group.

Client-owners: your veterinarian at the VMC may offer this study to you if your dog qualifies and the procedure is appropriate.

VMC clinicians and staff: Contact Anesthesia Prep to refer a case for the study.

For more information, please contact one of the study team members above.
