Happy New Year!
Fan mail from U.S. Army Veterinary CorpsA December 16 letter to Drs. Cathy Carlson and Erik Olson from Dr. Carl I. Shaia of the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps described the wonderful experience four second-year Department of Defense veterinary pathology residents had at the College Nov. 27-Dec. 9. Dr. Shaia wrote that he had conducted a post-externship feedback meeting with the residents in which they said they were "very, very pleased" with their externship in Minnesota. "Positive comments were many and included the quick turn-around-time on diagnostic cases and the realistic exposure to diagnostic gross pathology," he wrote. "Also, each commented on the strong academic environment with lots of opportunity to learn, ample help, and a variety of people willing to assist and teach them. Additionally, the time reviewing avian gross pathology and the opportunity to perform avian necropsies with Dr. (Rob) Porter and Dr. (Andre) Ziegler was an obvious high point. Having your fourth-year veterinary students involved was also well-received, as our residents enjoyed their questions and were often forced to think about cases from a more clinical perspective than usual. Finally, the ability to meet and network with the staff, fellow residents, and veterinary students was an unanticipated bonus."
