A special thank-you letter

This recent thank-you letter from a client recognized Dr. Adrienne Schucker, veterinary resident, and Michelle Mackey, executive and administrative specialist, Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Dr. Schucker and staff,

Wylie, our beloved 4-month-old mastiff, passed away unexpectedly 1/12/12. I want to thank the kind lady who initially took my phone call. . . You gave us the information in a calm and caring voice, which was very reassuring during a confusing time. Upon arriving at the facility, you again greeted us with a warm smile and were helpful in guiding us through the process. Dr. Schucker quickly responded, and although the paperwork was not started, took us aside and filled in the information with us. You took time to talk with us and were warm and compassionate during this difficult time for us. We were provided with a phone number to call the following evening for a preliminary report; however, Dr. Schucker called the following morning, saving us anticipation. Thank you for your compassion and providing us closure for our loss.

Copyright workshops planned for February

Learn more about copyright at these upcoming workshops at Magrath Library:

Copyright in the Classroom (and Online)

Can you show a movie in class? Can you distribute copies of a newspaper article? What are you allowed to post on your Moodle site, anyway? What about your students' work, or their online postings? This workshop focuses on copyright issues in the classroom, and in teaching online. Learn how the library can help you with electronic reserves and links to subscription materials. No direct legal advice will be provided; this workshop is informational in nature and is primarily intended for individuals currently teaching at the University.

When: Monday, February 6, 10 a.m.-noon
Where: Magrath Library Instruction Room (Room 81)

Register: http://z.umn.edu/copyrightinclassroom

Copyright Essentials for Authors and Creators
How many copyrights do you own? How long will they last? Can you post your paper online? Can someone else quote from your paper in their own? This workshop will provide a solid grounding in some of the elements of copyright law that are essential to scholarship, teaching, and research. Learn more about protections in the law for educators, and about your rights as an author or creator. Discuss and debate with your peers about some of the burning questions in the field, and enjoy exploring some entertaining and thought-provoking examples. No direct legal advice will be provided; this workshop is informational and educational in nature and primarily intended for faculty, researchers, and graduate students engaged in the scholarly writing & publishing process. Satisfies RCR continuing education awareness/discussion requirements.

When: Wednesday, February 22, 2-4 p.m.
Where: Magrath Library Instruction Room (Room 81)

Online-only session via UM Connect: Friday, March 23, 10 a.m.-noon
