In memory: Dr. John Arnold Dr. John Arnold, who earned his Ph.D. at the College in 1956 and was one of the founders of the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum, died on February 8 at age 101. Arnold joined the faculty in 1950, after earning his D.V.M. from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1941 and his M.S. in 1948. During his tenure, he was the chair of the departments of surgery and radiology. He was also one of the College’s first “international veterinarians,” serving as an advisor to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Seoul National University in South Korea, working as a consultant at the National University in Bogota, Columbia, and hosting visiting veterinarian professors from Iran in the early 1970s. He was also active in the American Veterinary Medical Association and Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. Arnold helped establish the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum, which began in the early 1970s when he and a fellow professor, Dr. Henry Griffith, collected items of historical interest within the College and displayed them in a hallway case. After his retirement in 1976, he served as curator of museum. In 2001, Arnold received the College’s Outstanding Service Award for his book, “One Hundred Years of Progress” and his work as curator of the museum.
Dr. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A private service was held with immediate family. Memorials may be made to the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum.
