VMC boosts marketing efforts The Veterinary Medical Center is boosting its marketing efforts with a series of ads and posters based on the University's "Because" campaign. The “Because…sometimes special friends need specialty care” campaign is designed to raise awareness of specialty care among Minnesota pet owners and encourages them to ask their veterinarian about specialty care or explore specialty options independently. A “Because… good friends don’t always make good choices" ad raises awareness of the VMC’s 24/7 small animal emergency services among pet owners. Full-size versions of the posters are on display outside the CVM Communications office (460 Veterinary Medical Center).
Another series of posters, "Partners in Giving," is designed to inform people about how they can support the VMC, the Equine Center, and The Raptor Center.

Dr. Klausner was dean of the College from 1998-2007. His presentation is online at http://mediasite.ahc.umn.edu/mediasite/Viewer/?peid=8df99c4b9b234297839c24c77b2d0f8e. (Please note that sound was not recorded due to technical problems, but you can review the 48 slides presented.) AHC seeks applications for Faculty Research Development grantsThe Academic Health Center (AHC) is soliciting applications for Faculty Research Development grants. Funds will be distributed through a competitive peer-review process and are designed to support new or expanding interdisciplinary and interscholastic research. The deadline is September 30. Learn more USDA announces end of period for election to participate in National Veterinary Accreditation ProgramThe U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced that veterinarians who are currently accredited in the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP) may continue to perform accredited duties and elect to continue to participate in the NVAP until Oct. 1, 2011. A previous notice announced that currently accredited veterinarians may continue to perform accredited duties until further notice, even if they had not received a date for their first accreditation renewal, because logistical difficulties prevented APHIS from processing currently accredited veterinarians (over 50,000) who elected to participate. APHIS is now close to reaching the goal of processing these elections and is specifying October 1 as the date by which veterinarians must elect to continue to participate in the NVAP. The accreditation of all currently accredited veterinarians who have not elected to participate in the program will expire, ending their authorization to perform accredited work. A Web seminar on the revisions to the NVAP and how to elect to participate is available at mms://ocbmtcwmp.usda.gov/content/aphis/aphis21.wmv.

Needs a home (top) Frank (also known as Hank or FurHank) is a 14-week-old male black dachshund/Labrador retriever cross. His mother is a black lab and his father is a dachshund, and it appears he received the best from both breeds. Cute and spunky, he will likely be a small/medium dog. He is excellent with people and other dogs and enjoys playing with kids. He has been socialized to many people and is doing very well on house-training. He sleeps and rides in a kennel with no problems. He’s snuggly and cuddly, too, and will sit on your lap, lie at your feet, or hunker down on your bed at night. He has received his first set of immunizations, deworming, and Frontline, but has not yet been neutered. He walks very well on a leash and trots along quite happily. He is free to a good home looking for a cuddly companion. Contact Marie Gramer at 612-624-7423 or grame003@umn.edu.
