- Seminars and award presentations: 3:00-4:30 p.m., Pomeroy Student-Alumni Learning Center

“This event is not only a great way for people to get together and celebrate the research that is happening at the College of Veterinary Medicine, but it is also a way to learn and expand overall understanding,” says Dr. Srirama Rao, associate dean for research and CVM professor. “We are looking forward to having everyone come together for this great event.”
It's Homecoming week
It's University of Minnesota Homecoming week, which means that the University and College have a full calendar of festivities planned. College events include Research Day on Wednesday and a 50-year class reunion, Duke Lecture, and participation in the Homecoming Parade on Friday.
Community Fund Drive runs through October
The University of Minnesota Community Fund Drive started October 1 and continues through October 31. This year, the U's goal is to achieve 40 percent participation from colleges, departments, and units. A CVM Community Fund Drive kickoff event is planned for Tuesday, October 9, from 7-9 a.m. in the atrium area across from Veterinary Population Medicine Department office. To learn more about the drive and make a pledge, visit www1.umn.edu/cfd/.
Veterinary Medical Library reports on downloads of conference proceedings
The Veterinary Medical Library reports that a little over a year ago, library staff uploaded the last 10 years of the Minnesota Dairy Conference proceedings into the University's Digital Conservancy. A recent examination of the statistics on how many times these proceedings have been viewed showed that, in just over a year, "we've gone to over 500 downloads a month," says Andre Nault, head of the Veterinary Medical Library. "There's something to be said for making this content discoverable through Google!" Library staff are currently working on uploading the last decade of the Leman Swine Conference proceedings in the next few months.
Case of the Month features Cardiology Service
The Veterinary Medical Center's October Case of the Month is the case of a German shepherd seen by the Cardiology Service for evaluation of an arrhythmia. The 4-month-old was diagnosed with inherited ventricular arrhythmia. See the Case of the Month.
Help Feed My Starving Children
Abbie Wirt and a group of students invite CVM faculty, staff, and students to join them in packaging meals for starving children on October 24 from 8:00-9:30 p.m. in Coon Rapids.
"We don't have lots of money as students, but we can serve our community and world through the use of our hands and feet," Abbie says. "We may not be able to go overseas, but we can help right here in the Twin Cities, and it's tons of fun to serve with Vet Med friends and family!"
On September 24, 15 Vet Med students packaged 36 boxes of food, which will feed 21 children for an entire year. Adults and children over 5 are welcome at the October 24 event. If October 24 from 8:00-9:30 p.m. doesn't work for you, you can sponsor food for five children for an entire month for $36 or sign up for another day by going to http://volunteer.fmsc.org/Register/Group/JoinGroup.aspx?gid=275580 (Join Code: 275580). If you have questions or would like to sign up, contact Abbie at wirtx015@umn.edu.
