Community Fund Drive continues for one more week The 2011 Community Fund Drive continues through October 31. As of week two, the College's participation rate was already 17.55 percent—higher than last year's 16-percent participation rate for the entire month. Even a one-time donation of $5 can make a difference. You can give to any one of the more than 400 organizations that are part of the seven federations featured every year, or any charity of your choice. Your pledge enters you in weekly and grand prize drawings to win a variety of prizes, including an iPad 2. At least one CVM employee is already a winner: Devi Patnayak of the Veterinary Population Medicine Department won a membership in the Weisman Art Museum. Make your donation by completing the pledge form you received by campus mail or by going to the Community Fund Drive Web site at www1.umn.edu/cfd/ to complete it online. Alumni news (top) Madson and Rademacher among winners of Pfizer '10 under 40' program CVM alumni Dr. Darin Madson and Dr. Chris Rademacher were among 10 veterinarians recently honored by Pfizer Animal Health's "10 under 40" program. The program honors 10 swine veterinarians under the age of 40 who are making significant contributions to swine medicine. Dr. Madson, now an assistant professor at Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, received his D.V.M. at the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. at Iowa State University. Dr. Rademacher, class of 1998, is now director of production improvement at Murphy-Brown Western Operations in Ames, Iowa. "The 10 under 40 program recognizes the success and dedication of young swine veterinarians, and we are privileged to work with and recognize these leaders who are doing their part to help pave the way for the future of our industry," says Steve Sornsen, D.V.M., M.S., senior director, pork technical services at Pfizer Animal Health. An independent panel of judges selected 10 veterinarians out of nearly 60 nominees. The award was open to American Association of Swine Veterinarians members under 40 years of age who live in the United States, in practice, academic, or consulting capacities. Nominees were to devote a minimum of 60 percent of their time to swine medicine. Winners received a trip to the Allen D. Leman Swine Conference in September.
