Celebration of R.K. Anderson's life is Wednesday

A celebration of Dr. Robert K. (R.K.) Anderson’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the St. Paul Student Center Ballroom. One of the college's most accomplished faculty members, R.K. passed away on October 18, at the age of 90. He led a distinguished career that is immortalized through numerous awards and honors, two inventions that revolutionized dog training and handling, several nonprofit organizations, more than 75 scientific papers, and the mentorship of countless numbers of students. He remained active in his role as an animal behaviorist and professor emeritus in veterinary public health until weeks before his death. The event is open to the public; everyone is welcome.

Group to explore opportunities for U-wide, interdisciplinary food initiative

The Center for Animal Health and Food Safety, in partnership with the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the School of Public Health, is hosting three sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 4-5, to explore opportunities for a university-wide, interdisciplinary food initiative. “Food” is a theme that permeates many colleges and programs across the University of Minnesota. The sessions will explore potential synergies that the colleges and programs might tap, with greater linkages and collaboration across all the U of M campuses. Three sessions are being offered to provide several opportunities for participation; participants may choose from sessions on the St. Paul campus and West Bank campus on December 4 and the East Bank Campus on December 5. To RSVP for one of the sessions, receive background information, and be added to the distribution list, register your interest at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JYJDFTD.

Hayloft Cafe under new management

Lisa Brazman recently assumed responsibility for the Hayloft Cafe in the Pomeroy Student-Alumni Learning Center. Lisa has been with Aramark, a food-service provider supplying University Dining Services, for three years, and has a great deal of enthusiasm and new ideas for the Hayloft, says Steen Erikson, facilities management. Lisa would like input from faculty, staff, and students about how the Hayloft can be a better resource. When you visit the Hayloft, look for the comment cards and submit one with your ideas or suggestions. (There is a box on the wall to deposit your completed comment card just off the main lobby right above the waste receptacles.) To contact Lisa directly, e-mail cainx170@umn.edu or call 612-624-4234. Lisa’s office is located in the Continuing Education and Conference Center.

The Raptor Center's online auction is December 4-12

The Raptor Center's online fundraising auction runs December 4-12. Items will include a Delta Vacations gift card, a weekend "tree house" getaway in northern Minnesota, Minnesota Timberwolves and Gopher Hockey tickets, and other gift possibilities for friends and family.
