President Kaler visits VDL, meets with CVM researchers

University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler toured the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) and met with College of Veterinary Medicine leadership and research signature programs co-leads in a Thanksgiving Eve visit on November 23. President Kaler heard about the mission of the VDL from Dr. Jim Collins, director (above left) and joined a discussion about research led by Dr. Srirama Rao, associate dean for research. Anita B. Schwartz ICU dedicated

The Anita B. Schwartz ICU was officially dedicated with a plaque mounted outside the Veterinary Medical Center's Small Animal Intensive Care Unit on November 29. Anita Schwartz was a major donor, U of M alumna, and VMC client whose parents were also lifelong clients of the VMC. She died in April at age 82, but she had arranged for her memory to live on through a gift in support of the Intensive Care Unit. The dedication was attended by a small group of VMC and Advancement staff members, including Sue Allard, Sheryl Ferguson, Deb Haak, Sue Kirchoff, Dr. David Lee, Jeannine Moga, Dr. Lisa Powell, Bill Venne, and Deb Vogt.

Give to the Max Day raises $36K for The Raptor Center

Give to the Max Day (November 16) resulted in $36,478 in donations to The Raptor Center, $27,000 of which was matched by a grant from Rachel and Denny Hollstadt and the Sarah J. Andersen Fund of the Hugh J. Andersen Foundation. Volunteer Jim Colten also won GiveMN.org's "super-sized golden ticket," a $10,000 prize that was added to his donation to The Raptor Center. This donation was randomly selected from among the donations made during the 24 hours of Give to the Max Day, when a total of $13,414,253 was donated to 3,978 nonprofits by 47,538 donors. Dr. Julia Ponder, executive director, promoted The Raptor Center in a video with Max, a bald eagle, online at http://givemn.razoo.com/story/The-Raptor-Center-4.
