Double Your Donation to The Raptor Center with Matching Grant Funds!

Each year, the Raptor Center treats hundreds of hawks, owls, eagles, and falcons in need of veterinary care. A worldwide leader in raptor rehabilitation, conservation, and education, the Center also trains veterinary professionals worldwide in the care of raptors. Some of the equipment that The Raptor Center uses to accomplish these two missions—providing veterinary care for sick and injured birds and training others to do the same—needs to be updated. For less than $130,000, The Raptor Center will be able to purchase four pieces of much-needed equipment that will benefit nearly every raptor the Center sees. This state-of-the-art equipment will also allow The Raptor Center to better prepare veterinary students for the future and to share its world-renowned expertise with others involved in the health and rehabilitation of raptors. But that’s not all. Today, each dollar you donate will be doubled through a matching grant provided by the Katherine B. Andersen Fund of the St. Paul Foundation. Please help The Raptor Center reach this very modest goal.

Digital radiography system

• Allows for high-resolution radiographs to be taken, stored, archived, and shared throughout the world within seconds.

• Allows for radiographs of pre-surgical, and post surgical repair of various injuries to be sent to veterinarians worldwide who are helping raptors with similar problems.

• Ultimately will give The Raptor Center the ability to conduct groundbreaking online training, further expanding its global reach.

• Eliminates the need for harsh chemicals, making it easier on the environment.

Cost: $100,000

CO2 laser

• This cutting-edge laser helps minimize blood loss and infection for birds with soft tissue traumas, which are common injuries when wild raptors are bitten by their prey.

• Allows for the treatment of bumblefoot, an infection found in captive bird populations in zoos and other educational settings.

• Allows for greater precision during surgery and more effective treatment, improving the prognosis for sick and injured birds, and reduces the recovery time.

Cost: $25,000

Capnograph

• Monitors how well an animal is taking in oxygen during anesthesia so injured and debilitated raptors can be more safely evaluated and treated.

• Decreases the stress level of nearly every raptor admitted by the Center, by allowing for safer anesthesia during the initial exam and any subsequent treatments.

Cost:  $2,500

Syringe pump

Decreases the amount of time birds in intensive care situations need to be handled, reducing stress and increasing chances for survival.

Allows raptors to receive fluids slowly over a longer period of time.

Benefits patients with injuries that require long surgical procedures.

Cost: $1,000

Please help us help some of the world’s largest and most magnificent birds. Your donation will also assist us in better preparing veterinary students and veterinary professionals worldwide to work with raptors. Help us leverage our success.
