VetPAC

PUB/CVM/EDU ExclamationUpdate (9/10/12): Walk-in tutoring is now available every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm in the Veterinary Medical Library.

What is VetPAC?

VetPAC stands for Vet Peer Assisted Coaching, a free service provided by the College of Veterinary Medicine, in order to help students who are struggling academically. Designed to enhance student learning, VetPAC provides specific academic assistance for students by arranging one-on-one (or small groups of 2-3) tutoring, pairing a struggling student with another CVM student who is currently excelling or has excelled in the course in the past. VetPAC is designed to improve CVM competencies, study and time management skills. Tutoring sessions last 1-2 hours and are scheduled weekly. Students seeking help are required to participate in at least three VetPAC sessions. Sessions are monitored and evaluated by tutees, coaches, and Deb Wingert, Director of Educational Development.

Who are the Peer Coaches?

VetPAC Peer Coaches are your classmates! Students who have excelled academically in each class year are invited to participate in this program. They have undergone a training session and have been provided with tips and resources to help them assist you.

What should I do if I am struggling in a course?

  • Contact Sara Dion, Academic Coordinator, at dionx032@umn.edu to request a VetPAC Peer Coach. In your email, be sure to include:
    • the name of the course you are struggling with
    • your class year
    • and whether or not you would prefer to work with someone from your own class.
  • Sara will quickly match you up with a Peer Coach so that you may begin your VetPAC sessions as soon as possible.
  • To prepare for your first VetPAC session, please ensure that you are up-to-date on class readings and assignments, and bring your materials with you to your session!
  • Please keep in mind that VetPAC is designed to help students struggling in a course (grade of C or below), and is not for those doing well and wishing to improve their grade (moving from an A- to an A).
