Q. Does Minnesota have a supplemental application?
A. No. We use a behavioral interview in place of a supplemental application.
Q. Does Minnesota have a supplemental application fee?
A. Yes. A $75 application processing fee is due to the college by October 31, 2008. Please be sure to write your VMCAS ID number on your check.
Q. Can I submit my application processing fee before October 31, 2008?
A. Yes! You can mail your application processing fee at anytime before October 31, 2008.
Q. Who do I make the application fee check out to?
A. Application fee checks can be made out to the University of Minnesota.
Q. Can I pay my application fee with a credit card?
A. No. We are not set up to accommodate credit cards. Check or money orders only please. Canadian applicants must pay in US funds.
Q. Where do I mail my application fee?
A. Application fees can be mailed to the following address:
University of Minnesota
College of Veterinary Medicine
Academic and Student Affairs Office
108 Pomeroy Center
1964 Fitch Avenue
St. Paul, MN 55108
Helpful Hint: If you are using a large envelope to mail multiple items to our office, enclose your check in a small envelope inside the large envelope. Checks enclosed freely in large envelopes can become lodged in the fold of large envelopes and are easily missed while sorting.
Transcripts
Q. Do you need a transcript from every college I’ve ever attended?
A. Yes, including transcripts from any college courses taken while in high school.
Q. Can I collect my official transcripts and mail them to the college together, or should I have them sent directly from my school to your office?
A. Either way is fine. If you choose to collect the transcripts yourself, they must be officially sealed and unopened.
Helpful Hint: Send all of you transcripts and application fee in one large envelope. Include a self-addressed, stamped postcard with your materials. We will mail the postcard back to you and you’ll know we’ve received all of your materials!
Q. Where do I mail my transcripts?
A. Transcripts can be mailed to the following address:
University of Minnesota
College of Veterinary Medicine
Academic and Student Affairs Office
108 Pomeroy Center
1964 Fitch Avenue
St. Paul, MN 55108
Q. If I attend the U of M, do I still need to send a U of M transcript?
A. Yes! We are unable to print transcripts for the large number of U of M applicants we receive. U of M students can request transcripts be sent to our office though One Stop Student Services.
Q. My name on my VMCAS application is different than my name on my transcripts. Does this matter?
A. Yes! Please e-mail our office at dvminfo@umn.edu if you have transcripts under a different last name than the one noted on your VMCAS application.
Helpful Hint: Notify your colleges if you change your name. Many colleges will update your transcript to reflect your new name. This will simplify our sorting process and assure your materials will be matched up correctly with your application file!
GRE Scores
Q. What is your school GRE code?
A. The institution code is 6904. No departmental code is needed.
Q. When do you need to receive my GRE scores?
A. The last day to take the GRE is October 2nd. GRE scores must be received by the college by October 31.
References
Q. How many references do you require?
A. Three. Any additional references will be considered optional for our admissions committee to review.
Advance Placement and Foreign Credit
Q. Will you accept credits taken abroad at foreign institutions?
A. We will accept credits taken abroad if they have been transferred back to a U.S. college and have been noted on a U.S. college transcript with a grade. If courses taken abroad have not been noted on a U.S. college transcript, the courses must be evaluated by an education service (such as World Education Service) for the course to be acceptable.
Q. Will you honor Advance Placement credit taken in high school?
A. Yes. We will honor Advance Placement credit as long as it’s documented on an undergraduate transcript.
Other Questions
Q. Can I have courses in progress and still apply?
A. Yes. You can have courses in progress fall term 2008 and spring term 2009. If you are offered admission and have spring term courses to complete, your offer will be considered provisional until a final transcript with your passing grade(s) has been received by our office. Please note that we will not accept courses taken in summer term 2009.
Q. How do I know if my transcripts and GRE scores have been received?
A. We will contact you within two weeks of the October2nd due date if you are missing transcripts or GRE scores. You will then have a short window of time to submit any materials you may be missing.
Q. When will I hear from you after I apply?
A. It takes VMCAS about two weeks to process all of the applications and to send each participating college a file for each applicant. After we have received all of our applicant files from VMCAS, we will send an e-mail to all applicants confirming the receipt of their file. This is usually about two weeks after the deadline.
Q. Can my family or friends check on the status of my application, transcripts, GRE scores, etc.?
A. No. You application is confidential! We can not release any information to anyone other than the applicant due to privacy laws.
Q. When are interviews?
A. Applicants who receive interviews will be notified of so in January. Resident interviews are typically on Mondays and Fridays in late January. Non-resident interviews are typically on the last three Fridays and Saturdays in February.
Q. Who do I contact if I have further questions?
A. Please send us an e-mail at dvminfo@umn.edu or call us at 612.624.4747.
