J.R. and his owner, Joan Lucas, had been fighting sarcoids, a frustratingly persistent type of viral skin tumor for a number of years. With collaboration between 3M and the University of Minnesota veterinary dermatologists and surgeons, J.R. is now sarcoid free and a new treatment for equine sarcoids is showing promise for many other horses. Minimally Invasive Surgery involves the use of fiberoptic scopes and lasers to perform complex surgical procedures through very small incisions. As a result, horses are more comfortable and are able to return to work much more quickly. The Equine Clinical Services continue to expand their services in laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and endoscopy.
