VDL card access project
March 2013 New card readers to go live March 18To improve access control in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) and comply with accreditation requirements, U Card readers have been installed in various locations throughout the facility. The majority of the work was done on the first floor, and the transitions from "old VDL" to "new VDL" on the second and third floors will be secured. The main elevator will also require a U Card to operate. There are some things you need to know before the card readers go live, which is expected to be on March 18. The card readers will all be proximity readers, which means you may need to get a new U Card if yours was issued before 2008. If your card has small, yellow numbers on the back in the top-right corner (see photo at right), your card is already proximity compatible. A proximity reader only requires that you hold your card near the reader; there is no need to swipe your card. (Please note that all other card readers will remain swipe readers; only the new VDL readers will be proximity readers.) - If you do need a new U Card, you will not be charged for the replacement if your card is over five years old or if you are on a list of eligible employees. Please note that you will need to turn in your old card and have a new photo taken to receive a free replacement. If you don’t have a card to turn in, you will be charged $25 for your new card. Schedule- Construction is complete, and the new card readers are expected to go live on March 18.
