Current Funding

  • The use of Clomipramine Hydrochloride for the Treatment of Feline Psychogenic Alopecia. June 2001 to date. $52,103.00. Sponsored by Novartis Animal Health US, Inc. The main goal is to determine the causes of feline self-inflicted alopecia and verify the safety of clomipramine hydrochloride to manage the cases related with psychogenic causes and atopy, P.I with Petra Mertens.
  • Patch test reaction to house dust mites in dogs with atopic dermatitis. July 2002 to date. $5,000.00. Sponsored by the Small Companion Animal Research Grant, Co - P.I. with Sandra Nogueira.
  • Investigation of the Mechanisms of Glucocorticoid-associated Congestive Heart Failure in Cats. July 2002 to date $ 15,000.00. Sponsored by The Winn Feline Foundation, Co - P.I.with Anthony Tobias, Stephany Smith and Sheri Ross.

Honors and Awards

  • Received a teaching incentive award by the College of Vet. Medicine, 2000
  • Received the Excellence in Clinical Teaching from the Class of 1999.
  • Received a teaching incentive award by the students in the Class of 1999 for exceptional teaching efforts during the past year.
  • National Phi Zeta Award by the National Society of Phi Zeta, in recognition of the excellent research manuscript entitled: "Effect of oral prednisolone on thyroid function in dogs". The manuscript was reviewed and selected by the National Phi Zeta Awards committee as one of the two most outstanding manuscripts in the 1990 National Competition.
