  CVM Graduate Program News

Call for Applications: Postdoctoral Training Program in Comparative Medicine and Pathology

We are now accepting applications from veterinarians seeking state-of-the-art research training in an NIH postdoctoral training program. The goal of this program is to provide students with sufficient broad based knowledge, quality communication skills, and advanced research training essential for a career as an independent investigator. The faculty mentors in the program represent a diverse group of disciplines including pharmacology, cell biology, infectious disease, neurobiology, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology. Trainees who do not already hold a PhD degree will be strongly encouraged to pursue a PhD degree in the Comparative Molecular Biosciences (CMB) graduate program.

Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship Awards

Congratulations to CMB PhD student John Schwartz (advised by Dr. Michael Murtaugh), VMED PhD student Fabio Vannucci (advised by Dr. Connie Gebhart), and VMED PhD student Matthew Allerson (advised by Dr. Montse Torremorell), who have been awarded a 2012-2013 Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship by the UMN Graduate School. This is truly an honor for them and our graduate programs. Congratulations to these students and their advisors on this outstanding recognition.

Check Out The Epi Journal Club

The focus of the Epi Journal Club - initiated Fall Semester 2010 - is on epidemiologic methods rather than specific research topics. Each week we are joined by one faculty member to discuss the epidemiologic methods presented in one journal article. Some topics discussed so far are molecular and spatial methods and risk analysis.

The Epi Journal Club is open to all grad students - VMED or CMB. We usually meet at 4:00 on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

If you would like to be on the mailing list for the journal club, please email CMB PhD student, Tiffany Wolf, DVM at wolfx305@umn.edu.
