Comparative and Molecular Biosciences

Your Ph.D. program will involve state-of-the-art biomedical research training to prepare you for careers in and outside of academia.  You will graduate as a highly skilled scientist, able to derive mechanistic insights into a broad spectrum of health and disease problems of humans and animals.

The CMB program brings together basic and clinical scientists in various areas of expertise that are supported by grants from:

• National Institutes of Health
• United States Department of Agriculture
• animal producer groups
• private industry
• foundations

Our faculty will help to provide you with individualized training to gain new knowledge in the understanding of comparative aspects of biology and pathology across animal species, animal models of human disease, and animal diseases and populations.

In the first two years of your Ph.D. program you are exposed to a variety of disciplines, courses, and research projects, which you will draw on to define your areas of interest, broaden your scientific background, and refine your scientific communication skills.  After selecting an advisor and completing your preliminary exams, you will focus on your research project to complete your final defense.
