Immunobiology: Molecular regulation of immune and inflammatory responses; cytokine biology; mucosal and skin immunology; leukocyte biology; immunopharmacology and toxicology.

Microbiology and Infectious Disease: Molecular mechanisms of bacterial, viral, and parasitic pathogenesis; microbial population genetics; ecological approaches to disease systems; determination of host, environment, and microbial factors that influence pathogen transmission and persistence.

Pathology: Host-pathogen interactions; experimental hematology; animal models; comparative pathology.

Cellular and Molecular Biology: Regulation of gene expression; signal transduction and cell signaling mechanisms; membrane biology.

Genetics and Genomics: Molecular basis of heritable disorders; identification of genes affecting animal health and performance; mapping of mammalian genomes.

Neuroscience: Regulation of pain pathways and neurotransmission; analgesia; drug addiction; brainstem and cerebellar pathways and function.
