Admissions and Application
Admission Requirements Applicants meeting the following requirements will be considered for admission: - B.S. or B.A. in biomedical sciences and/or a D.V.M.
- A preferred performance level of 3.00 GPA (on a 4-point scale).
- Competitive GRE scores, obtained within five years.
- Laboratory/research experience (preferred).
- International applicants: Minimum TOEFL score (obtained within two years) of 213 computer-based, 550 paper-based and for internet based a minimum total score of 79, plus section scores of at least 21 on the writing section and 19 on the reading section.
- Requirements for the MELAB is a score of 80, or a 6.5 on the IELTS.

Application Process Applying to the CMB graduate program is a two-part process. Students must apply to both the Graduate School and the CMB program. Students do not apply to individual faculty members; admission recommendations are made by the CMB program advisory committee and then forwarded to the Graduate School for finalization. The Graduate School application process is as follows: - Complete the Graduate School’s online application form.
- $75 for US citizens; $95 for international students.
- Send the following documents directly to the Graduate School:
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended
- GRE scores (Educational Testing Service codes for reporting GRE scores are 6874 – institution and 0622 - department)
- TOEFL scores (international applicants only)

Upload your personal statement to Statement #1 in the Applicant Statements section of the online application. We will download your statement from there.
- Submit a CV or resume. This can be uploaded to the Graduate Program Supplementary Information section.
- Provide three letters of recommendation addressing your ability to pursue graduate study and previous research experience. These can be uploaded to the online application if you wish.
- Submit copies of the following documents:

This means that all application materials must be received by both the Graduate School and the CMB program prior to the deadline. Application deadline – January 1 Admission notification – March 15 Commitment by student – April 15 Program start – Fall semester Deadlines may be flexible to allow for the recruitment of exceptional students. Financial Support Incoming Ph.D. students are supported during their first year by the CMB Graduate Program with a Research Assistantship position that includes a $22,500 stipend, a tuition waiver, and healthcare benefits. During subsequent years, students are supported financially by their faculty advisor, identified during their first year of study. After successfully passing the preliminary exams during the second year in the Ph.D. program, the stipend is increased to $23,500. The program does not provide funding to support M.S. candidates; students interested in earning an M.S. must identify, with assistance from the program, a faculty advisor who will support their studies.
