University of Minnesota Moment, Monday, Aug. 28 -- “Backyard Birding and Avian Influenza”

A new DVD containing valuable information on preventing bird diseases, including avian influenza, will be available at the Minnesota State Fair's Poultry Barn and Miracle of Birth Center this year. Dave Halvorson with the U's College of Veterinary Medicine says there are several steps small flock owners can take to protect their birds.

University of Minnesota Moment, May 05, 2006 "Spring Raptor Release"

Every spring, the U of M’s Raptor Center hosts an annual tradition – the Spring Raptor Release, which celebrates the release of rehabilitated raptors back into the wild. Raptor is a general term for a group of predatory birds consisting of eagles, falcons, hawks and owls. Dr. Julia Ponder, associate director of the Raptor Center, encourages Minnesotans to attend this exciting event, and watch the birds as they soar into the sky.

University of Minnesota Moment, April 26, 2006, "Pet First Aid"

Your pet is part of your family. And just like any other member of the family, pets can become ill or injured. Dr. Kelly Tart, an assistant clinical professor at the U of M Veterinary Teaching Hospital, says things get especially busy at the U’s vet clinic during the summer months – a high time for dog and cat emergencies.

University of Minnesota Moment, February 10, 2006 featured "Dr. Gary Goldstein February Pet Dental Month"   

 February is National Pet Dental Health Month and a reminder for owners that oral disease is the most common health problem in dogs and cats today. Dr. Gary Goldstein, a veterinary dentist with the U’s Veterinary Clinical Sciences department, says dental problems in pets go way beyond bad breath.
