College designates personal/professional development time The College has designated Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. as a time for faculty, staff, and students to dedicate to personal and professional development. In a Dec. 29 memo, Dr. Jeff Klausner, dean, and Laura Larson, human resources director, asked that no other meetings be scheduled at that time to allow everyone to participate in programs and otherwise devote time to personal and professional development.
On the first Friday of each month, the College will sponsor a personal development program. The first program, scheduled for noon-1 p.m. Friday, January 5 in 135 Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine, will be "Personal and Family Emergency Preparedness," presented by Dr. Elizabeth McClure, Kathy Berlin, and Joan Rambeck of the Academic Health Center Office of Emergency Response. Participants will learn the steps to create personal preparedness plans to care for loved ones, pets, and themselves during an emergency, review emergency supplies they need to assemble, and receive easy-to-use checklists to begin the process of preparing. Refreshments will be served, and participants are free to come late or leave early.
A new CVM Seminar on Teaching also starts at noon Friday, Jan. 5. See Faculty and Staff News.
Construction projects continue moving forward The College's construction projects continue to make progress, reports Ed Kosciolek, facilities manager.
The Ben Pomeroy Student-Alumni Learning Center is scheduled to be completed by February 15.
The Ben Pomeroy Student-Alumni Learning Center (former dairy barn) is nearing substantial completion. The contractor plans to be 98 percent completed by February 15, with an anticipated move-in date of March 1. This month, final interior finishing work will be completed, as will audiovisual and telecommunications wiring. Furniture is scheduled for installation by Feb 15, with final building systems testing slated for the last two weeks of February.
| Equine Center construction continues on pace for a late summer completion. The clinic area is nearly enclosed now that roofing and wall installation is complete. Interior construction work, especially plumbing and ventilation installations, are underway. The research barn is scheduled to be enclosed by mid-January, which will enable further interior work in that area. By late January, the center's exterior appearance will begin to reflect the final design. Much more work remains to be done, but construction is moving forward on schedule. |
Equine Center construction as of Dec. 20 |
Also underway is the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory's Biosafety Level 3 bird flu lab project. Excavation for the foundation is taking place in the space between the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and the Veterinary Science building. The project is scheduled for a late spring completion.
Thank you! The College thanks everyone who donated to the hat and mitten tree, Toys for Tots, and Second Harvest Heartland during the holiday season. Bins for Second Harvest Heartland will available until Friday, January 5, so if you would still like to donate, please do.
