MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (Dec. 14, 2004) - Jerry Torrison, D.V.M., Ph.D., has joined the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine as an associate clinical professor in Veterinary Population Medicine Department and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

With his appointment, Dr. Torrison was awarded the W.T.S. Thorp Scholarship for advanced training in food animal diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine. His duties will include diagnostic service for food animal clients of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, teaching professional students in the D.V.M. curriculum, and collaborative applied research focused on important diseases of food animals.

"Dr. Torrison brings a unique understanding of contemporary swine production, epidemiology - including records analysis - veterinary practice, and infectious disease control and eradication," said Jim Collins, D.V.M., Ph.D., director of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

"His unique experience in education, agribusiness, and veterinary practice will greatly support our department's teaching mission," said Trevor Ames, D.V.M.,
chair of the Veterinary Population Medicine Department.

Dr. Torrison received his D.V.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, he was a consultant with Swine Vet Center, P.A., in St. Peter, Minn., for six years and health assurance manager at PIC, an international supplier of pig breeding stock, for five years.
