Minnesota Animal Societies Collaborate on Hurricane Katrina Animal Relief Actions
The Animal Humane Society, Humane Society for Companion Animals, Greater West Metro Humane Society, Tri-County Humane Society, and Minnesota Valley Humane Society are all helping to send aid to animals in southern states devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
The Animal Humane Society based in Golden Valley and Coon Rapids, Minn., is collecting these supplies for delivery directly to animal welfare organizations in the hurricane-ravaged areas: new canned cat and dog food, disposable feeding dishes and litter pans, cat litter in plastic jugs or buckets, collars, harnesses, leashes, pooper scoopers, Zip-loc bags, large trash bags, and towels. These items may be dropped off in the bins provided at the Animal Humane Society during regular shelter hours. The Animal Humane Society is also pledging 10 percent of its fall telemarketing drive to hurricane animal relief.
The Humane Society for Companion Animals based in St. Paul and Woodbury is participating in a pet care supply drive and accepting the above supplies at their two locations. They are also pledging 10 percent of the proceeds of their fall fund drive to hurricane animal relief.
The Minnesota Valley Humane Society, based in Burnsville, and the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud are accepting pet food and litter donations as well.
Other hurricane animal stories and opportunities to help will be posted on the humane groups' Web sites as the stories develop.
Those interested in contributing money rather than supplies may send checks earmarked for hurricane survivor animals to:
