On October 10, 2012, the College of Veterinary Medicine's Points of Pride Research Day event included the presentation of these awards: 
Pfizer Research Excellence Award: James Mickelson, professor, Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department, University of Minnesota (center). The award was presented by Mark Rutherford, associate dean of graduate programs, and Srirama Rao, associate dean for research. |  Distinguished Research Alumnus: Ramesh Akkina, professor, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology, Colorado State University (center) | 
Distinguished Research Partner: Randy Simonson, Newport Laboratories, Worthington, Minnesota (center). The award was presented by Tom Molitor, chair of the Veterinary Population Medicine Department, and Srirama Rao, associate dean for research. |
