This site will allow users to see at a glance what chemicals are in each laboratory, and in what quantities, as well as making available information such as the CAS and DDC numbers and links to the MSDS for that chemical. This site will enable administrators and safety personnel to monitor chemical use and related safety issues. Each laboratory will be required to enter the information for the chemicals in their labs, and update it periodically when receiving new chemicals, or using up/disposing of existing chemicals.
Summary of Lab Audit Findings
The University of Minnesota, as part of its safety plan, requires that all research laboratories be audited by departmental research safety officers (RSO) at least annually. In addition, labs are audited by the University’s Biosafety officer annually, and the department of regulatory affairs audits those labs using controlled substances. At the College of Veterinary Medicine, RSOs compile the findings of their laboratory audits and present the results to the collegiate Health and Safety committee for their review. This indicates common and recurring deficiencies, as well as noting improved compliance when comparing current findings with the previous year(s).
