Dr. Harley W. Moon, class of 1960, received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1965. In 1991, he became one of the few veterinarians to be elected to the National Academy of Science. A leader in the area of diseases of livestock animals, Moon held the endowed Frank Ramsey chair at Iowa State University until his retirement. Prior to that, he was the director of the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa.
Dr. Moon's other accomplishments include:
- In 2002, he was awarded Distinguished Membership in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, joining a select group of approximately 1,400 diplomates.
- In 2004, the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases, held in Chicago, was dedicated to Moon.
