Pergolide in Jeopardy Cushing’s disease is a common hormonal disorder of middle-aged and geriatric horses. The only effective medication for this devastating disease, pergolide mesylate, has recently been withdrawn from the human pharmaceutical market, threatening its availability for equine use. To help ensure that this drug remains available for use in affected horses, an online petition has been mounted to educate the FDA and drug distributors about the importance of this medication to horses and their owners: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savepergolide/index.html |
