The Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association honored CVM faculty members and staff with the following awards at their annual business meeting on Feb. 8:


AHC seeks nominations for Academies for Excellence awards
Celebrate faculty members' extraordinary achievements by nominating them for one of the Academic Health Center's Academies for Excellence Awards. Winners will receive $10,000 annually for five years to support their efforts to revolutionize health education and research.

VBS department celebrates grand opening of Dr. Timothy Johnson's new lab
The Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department hosted the grand opening of Dr. Timothy Johnson's new laboratory in 215 Veterinary Science on Feb. 8. Dr. Johnson's lab utilizes genomics-based approaches to better understand the mechanisms of virulence and antimicrobial resistance employed by bacterial pathogens of poultry, swine, and cattle, as well as the potential threats that some strains might present to humans and other animals.

The
Society for Veterinary Medical Ethics is sponsoring a student essay contest. The topic: the Veterinary Practitioner's Role in Animal Cloning. The prize for the winning essay is $1,000 plus travel expenses to the 2008 American Veterinary Medical Association convention in New Orleans.
