Researchers honored at Points of Pride Research Days
Last week's annual Points of Pride Research Days event celebrated the College's research program, honoring its researchers and research partners. On March 21, a standing-room-only crowd packed 125 Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine as Distnguished Research Alumnus Dr. Thomas Besser presented the seminar "Pre-Harvest Food Safety and E. coli O157:H7: New Answers Raise New Questions." After the seminar, the following awards were presented:


Chemical cleanup day nets 80 boxes of waste
CVM Chemical Cleanup Day, held March 20, netted more than 80 boxes of waste and recycled chemicals. Jon Poling, senior environmental health and safety technician at Facilities Management's Department of Environmental Health and Safety, commented that packaging and forms were much improved over previous cleanup days.

Veterinary Student Supply to offer discount, sponsor book fairs
On Tuesday, March 27, and Wednesday, March 28, Veterinary Student Supply (VSS) will be offering a 10 percent discount on Blackwell (formerly Iowa State Press and Lippincott) titles. A table with a sampling of Blackwell titles will be set up outside VSS. VSS will be also be sponsoring two book fairs this spring. Elsevier (Saunders and Mosby) will be in the Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine lobby April 3 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Hayloft grand opening planned for March 29
A grand opening event for the Hayloft (also known as Java City), the new cafeteria in the Ben Pomeroy Student-Alumni Learning Center, will be hosted by University Dining Services at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29.


CVM Open House is April 1
The College will host its annual open house on Sunday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gather your family and friends to--

April 4 is College cleanup day
To prepare for the upcoming accreditation team tour of the College, faculty and staff are encouraged to eliminate any equipment and furnishings they no longer need. Departmental offices have a supply of orange disposal tickets that may be affixed to any item they would like to have removed. Affix one disposal ticket to each item, place the item in the nearest main building corridor by 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, and it will be removed by the end of the day. Disposal tickets contain a few simple rules and instructions; Please observe them. Direct any questions to Ed Kosciolek, facilities manager, at  625-1960.

In memory: Dr. John L. Myhrom
Dr. John L. Myhrom, 59, owner of Animal Health Care Veterinary Clinic in Rochester, Minn., died March 17 in an auto accident north of Byron. Dr. Myhrom graduated from the College in 1984, worked in the Twin Cities, practiced with Dr. Larry Predmore for a short period, and opened Animal Health Care Veterinary Clinic in 1987. A small animal specialist, Dr. Myhrom ran his clinic much like a small-town doctor, taking phone calls late into the night and making house calls. He leaves behind his wife, Cindy, children, and two brothers.

AHC offers scientific writing classes
The AHC Office of Clinical Research is sponsoring a free Scientific Writing Development Series consisting of four one-hour sessions from noon to 1 p.m. on consecutive Fridays from April 13 through May 4. Lunch will be provided.  Organizers include editors and writers from the College of Veterinary Medicine (Karin Matchett), Departments of Surgery and Family Medicine, Office of Clinical Research, and Department of Rhetoric.

Topics will be:
