Dean Klausner to leave College

In a March 27 memo to faculty, staff, and students, Jeffrey S. Klausner, dean, announced that he would be leaving the College on July 1 to become president and chief executive officer of the Animal Medical Center, New York City's largest facility for animal care, research, and education. Dr. Frank Cerra, the University's senior vice president for health sciences, will appoint an interim dean, and a search committee will be formed.

Dr. Klausner recently completed his seventh year as dean. He joined the faculty as an assistant professor in 1977 and served as chair of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences (now Veterinary Clinical Sciences) from 1988 until 1998.

Dean Klausner received the President’s Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association in  July 2006, a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, and the Veterinarian of the Year Award from the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association in 1999. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, his D.V.M. from the University of Georgia, and his master's degree from the University of Minnesota.

"I am very proud of all that has been accomplished by the College leadership team in the last eight years," Dr. Klausner wrote. "My 33 years at this College have been a great joy. The passion and dedication of the faculty, staff, and students is unmatched. . . Because of all of you, the College's future looks very bright."

Subject to Animal Medical Center Board approval, Dr. Klausner will succeed Dr. Guy Pidgeon, who resigned early last year.
