Year-end give
Due to a very sudden and unexpected shortfall in donations, The Raptor Center closed the fiscal year substantially short of its fund-raising goals. Given that 57 percent of The Raptor Center’s operating budget is based on philanthropy, this deficit represents a critical need.
Every day, we see the result of today’s difficult economic climate. As gas and food prices soar, families and supporters pullback on charitable gifts, and donations to nonprofits plummet.
At the same time, raptors face challenging conservation and environmental problems, many of which are caused by human beings. Habitat is being altered at an alarming rate, and avian malaria and blood parasites have increased. Raptors also continue to suffer trauma injuries and poisonings on a daily basis, and The Raptor Center is dedicated to helping them.
The Raptor Center also fills a critical need for schoolchildren. Traditionally, The Raptor Center has provided reduced-cost or free programming to schools that are in financial need and are able to bring their students to on-site programs. As funding for school transportation decreases, The Raptor Center is looking to bring reduced-cost or no-cost programs to these under-served schools—but funding for this outreach effort is limited.
If The Raptor Center fails to raise roughly $70,000 to cover the shortfall for the fiscal year ending July 1, 2008, cutbacks in treatment, education, research, and outreach programs may be necessary.
Your gift is needed now more than ever. Please give what you can to help us reach our goals and keep our programs strong. No gift is too small.
