There is an initial screening process. The proposal will be reviewed by a panel consisting of the SCAVMA class representatives to determine its merit.
To be eligible for a grant, the applicant must fill out the application, must be attending an event further than 100 miles from the college or at a cost of greater than $100, and if asked must be willing to give a presentation to the student body upon return.
Each semester, $1000 is awarded in travel grants in increments voted on by the SCAVMA Executive Board.
If there are fewer than 6 eligible applicants in a semester the remaining grants will be carried over and added to the pool for the next semester. This carry-over will only go up to $500. Any amount over that will go into the general SCAVMA fund.
The proposals should be emailed to the SCAVMA president by the due date posted for the quarter that the event takes place. Due dates for taking place during the summer will also be posted. Grant applications will be reviewed at the October, January, and April SCAVMA Executive Board meetings.
Group applications are not allowed.
The cost of an event is determined by totaling the registration fee, housing costs, and travel costs.
Repeat applicants in a given school year will be placed in a second category and those proposals will only be eligible for drawing after the first-time applicants have been selected.
Once a travel grant has been awarded, a thank you note must be written by the recipient on professional stationery to Hill's in order for the grant to be received. The thank you note must be turned in to the SCAVMA secretary (Rachel Spike - Class of 2010) in order to receive the grant money.
Travel Grants are RETROACTIVE. You must apply after your trip is completed.
Email your completed application to the 2007-2008 President, Nancy Greenwald
