Member Benefits

As a paid member of the University of Minnesota’s Student Chapter of the AVMA (SCAVMA), there are unique benefits from both the national Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) and the University of Minnesota’s local chapter (SCAVMA) for which you will be eligible.  Please see below:

1st-4th Year Benefits:
 SCAMVA Benefits:
- Educational lunch/snack meetings
- Free or reduced entrance to SCAVMA events (e.g. Snowball, Welcome Back BBQ, Senior BBQ, Spring Fling etc)
 SAVMA Benefits:
- Access to many services available at http://www.avma.org
- Reduced rates for the Journal of AVMA  (JAVMA)  and the American Journal of Veterinary Research (AJVR) ($170-$205 savings)
- Free AVMA convention registration ($345 value)
- AVMA convention and SAVMA Symposium reimbursement (varies annually)

1st Year Additional Benefit:
 Maroon scrub top ($10 value)
2nd Year Additional Benefit:

3rd Year Additional Benefit:

4th Year Additional Benefits:
 Free SCAVMA membership if member dues were paid 1st-3rd year ($30 value)
Post Graduation Benefits:
- Free rollover into AVMA membership if a member in good standing *
- No membership dues for the remainder of the year of graduation ($195 value)
- Reduced membership rates for 2 years post-graduation ($140 value/year)
- Free attendance to the AVMA convention the year of graduation
- One free certificate to AVMA convention ($345 value)

 
* A 4th year member in good standing is a student who has paid 1st year dues, 2nd year dues, 3rd year dues and has 12 SCAVMA meeting credits.  Members who choose to pay dues for only two of the first 3 years of school must pay 4th year dues, but may still be considered in good standing if he/she has completed 12 SCAVMA meeting credits.

$Students are eligible for insurance if they are paid SCAVMA/SAVMA members.  Students are eligible for insurance regardless of number of meeting credits earned.
