The University of Minnesota Equine Center is home to an internationally recognized equine research program focuses on many areas of horse health. Equine research topics include genetic diseases affecting horses such as Overo Lethal White Syndrome and Glycogen Branching Enzyme Deficieny . Muscle diseases of horses such as Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy and Recurrent Exertional Rhabdomyolysis are also a major focus. The Equine Center's research utilizes the vast collaborative resources only available from the University of Minnesota's twenty Colleges and 256 Research Centers. Our research faculty members are world-renown in areas such as equine genetics, equine exercise physiology, endocrinology in horses, equine internal medicine, orthopedics for horses, and equine colic, and are collaborators on many groundbreaking equine medicine studies. Faculty from other disciplines outside of veterinary medicine, such as muscle disorders, musculoskeletal research, nutrition, diabetes, and obesity within the Academic Health Center, are part of this interdisciplinary approach to novel research.
