Clinical Pathology
Catherine Benson, Resident Dr. Benson graduated veterinary school from the University of Illinois in 2007. From 2007-2010 she did a residency in veterinary anatomic pathology at Cornell University in which during her third year, she signed out her own necropsy and biopsy cases. She plans on dual certification in anatomic and clinical pathology and her interests include renal and hepatic pathology, tumor biology, and parasitic diseases. Jed Overmann, Assistant Clinical Professor Dr. Overmann completed his DVM at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, Iowa in 2004. In 2007 he completed a Veterinary Clinical Pathology Residency at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Overmann is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Dr. Overmann is interested in diagnostic hematology and cytology, immune-mediated hematologic diseases, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and case-based learning in the veterinary curriculum. Jill Schappa, Resident Dr. Schappa is a 2012 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Schappa is interested in translational and comparative medicine. Leslie C. Sharkey, Associate Professor Dr. Sharkey obtained her BS with Honors from the University of Michigan, followed by a DVM and PhD in cardiovascular physiology from the Ohio State University. She became a diplomate of the ACVP in 1999, and was on faculty at Tufts University in Boston before joining the University of Minnesota. Dr. Sharkey is interested in experimental pathology, cancer biology, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
