Disclaimer: In preliminary trials, it has been found that oral fluid collected from pigs that are on transition diets including spray dried plasma containing anti-PRRSV antibody can show false positive reaction in PRRS ELISA (Zimmerman, Personal communications, 2011).

Comments: Detects anti-influenza A nucleoprotein antibodies in pigs using an IDEXX commercial influenza epitope-blocking enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay developed for avian species and evaluated for swine (J Vet Diagn Invest 22:3–9 (2010)).  This is a high throughput screening test capable of detecting antibodies against several subtypes of influenza virus.  This test is not subtype specific.  If detection of antibodies to specific subtypes such as H1N1 or H3N2 are desired, additional virus and subtype specific hemagglutination inhibition (HI)  testing is recommended on Multiscreen ELISA positive samples.  Cut-off values are <0.6 = positive, 0.6 to 0.9 = suspect, >0.9 = negative.  The diagnostic  sensitivity ranges from 72% to 96% and the diagnostic specificity ranges from 78% to 99%.  For more information, see this Fact Sheet.
