2007    Jim Lowe

Dr. James F. Lowe is a 1994 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Since graduation he has been working with swine production companies across the United States. After three years in mixed practice, he was a co- owner of Professional Swine Management, LLC and Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. in Carthage, Illinois.

He completed the Executive Veterinary Program in 2000 and returned to campus in 2002 while continuing to practice full time, earning a master of science degree in 2005. His research focused on understanding the effects of PRRS virus in chronically infected sow herds.

Specifically he, along with his advisors Tony Goldberg, Federico Zuckerman, and Larry Firkins, investigated the role of the immune response and viral genetics on reproductive performance.

In 2003 Dr. Lowe joined The Maschhoffs, Inc. in Carlyle, Illinois as its director of heath and production services. The Maschhoffs, Inc. is one of the 10 largest pork producers in North America and Dr. Lowe led its Breed to Wean business group and Health Services group while the company expanded from 25,000 to 110,000 sows.

In 2007 Dr. Lowe returned to private practice with Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. while continuing to work with The Maschhoffs, Inc., leading their Health Services group.

In his spare time, Dr. Lowe enjoys golf and Illini football and basketball games.
