Who We Are and What We Do!

The Medical Imaging Department offers a full-range of quality, diagnostic services in the areas of small and large animal radiology, computed tomography, ultrasonography, diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, and radiation therapy. In addition, we have also expanded our referral radiographic interpretation services to include teleradiology.

Our service is composed of 4-board-certified radiologists, 1-radiology residents, 3-small animal radiology technicians, 1-magnetic resonance imaging technologist, 3-ultrasound technicians, 1-radiation therapy technician, 3-office administrative specialists, and 1-floor supervisor.

Recent News: 

2008.March - UMN VMC begins offering Outpatient Advanced Imaging Services, where rDVM's make a direct request for Advanced Imaging Procedures such as CT/MRI/US/Special Radiographic Procedures to be performed. Please visit the AVID Website for more Information.

2008.January - We began using the newly installed 3.0-T MRI unit (GE Signa HDx 3.0T). The first 3.0T magnet to be installed onsite at a Veterinary Hospital.

2007.September - We began using the newly installed 10 MeV Linear Accelerator to treat veterinary cancer patients. We are treating on average 5 to 7 patients per day.

2007.June - The Medical Imaging Department and VMC are excited to announce the purchase of a 3-Tesla MRI unit. The MR unit will be placed in an easily accessible location where both small and large animal patients will be able to utilize the imaging unit.

2007.May - The Medical Imaging and Oncology Departments are excited to anounce the installation of a 10MeV Linear Accelerator. Installation of the unit is just about complete, with full operational use of the equipment slated for the beginning of July 2007.

* Because of the acquisition of the MRI, we now do fewer myelograms, in 2008 we did 51 and in 2007 we did 164 myelograms. Most myelograms were performed afterhours.

** Does not include echocardiograms, which are performed by our cardiologists.
