VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION 
Medical Records Volunteer Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Records is a versatile department that supports the information needs of patients and clinicians. The chart or file contains all the demographic and visit information on each patient, and is used by the veterinarian in the process of diagnosing and determining treatment. The Veterinary Medical Center Medical Records department maintains 90,000-plus files of current and past patients. This department pulls and prepares approximately 3,000 files per month for appointments, in addition to processing approximately 12,000 pieces of paper into the files to keep them updated. The volunteer assists this department by performing various clerical/administrative tasks.

Responsibilities include:
* Keeping files and records up-to-date
* Sorting documents
* Filing various items

This position takes work direction from the VMC Director of Clinical Informatics.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Must be 18 years of age, complete VMC orientation, and be willing to commit to one shift a week for six months.

VMC TRAINING 
Initial training and ongoing training is provided by staff supervisor.
