Pot Bellied Pigs

All Pot Bellied Pig services at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center are delivered by a team.  Each team consists of a Board Certified Specialist, a resident, an intern, a veterinary technician, and students.

Facilities

The Veterinary Medical Center has a dedicated Pot Bellied Pig ward with individual stalls for examinations and administration of treatments, a surgical suite, and specialized examination and reproductive rooms. 

Specialized equipment includes digital radiography, CT scanner, scintigraphy, videoendoscopy, ultrasonography, CO2 laser and advanced dental equipment.

Appointments

For in hospital appointments, emergencies or to set up a field call visit please call 612-625-6700. Appointments are generally scheduled Monday through Friday between  9 a.m. and 5 p.m. 

Phone consultations are available and an estimate of costs can be provided.   Referrals from you usual vet are encouraged but not required.

Emergency Services are available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day


Services Include:

Routine: includes foot and tusk trimming, vaccinations, deworming, and ear cleaning.

Medical: includes internal medicine and critical care, endoscopy, cardiology, ophthamology, neurology, dentistry, dermatology, and nutritional consultations.

Surgical: includes soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, lameness evaluations, laparoscopic, reproductive, and laser surgery.

Reproductive: includes ultrasonography, breeding soundness evaluations, breeding management, management of infertility, hormone analysis, pregnancy diagnosis, and treatment for dystocia.

Medical imaging: includes radiology, ultrasound, CT scanner and MRI.

Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratoryincludes bacteriology, clinical chemistry, cytology, endocrinology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, necropsy and general exam of tissues, parasitology, pathology (surgical), sology, toxicology, and virology.

Additional Services: anesthesia, pharmacy, client support services and complementary therapies including acupuncture and rehabilitation.
