Teaching

The department provides lecture, laboratory, in-hospital, and field-based clinical instruction in medicine, surgery, production medicine, and theriogenology (reproduction) of the major domestic large-animal species. The department also houses the core faculty in epidemiology, veterinary public health, and pathology.

The department's instructional programs encompass a wide range of topics, including individual animal diagnostics and therapeutics, herd-level diagnosis and control, nutrition, production, management evaluation, and the application of software programs in veterinary medicine, especially population medicine.

The department's instructional programs also focus on providing professional and graduate students with the skills necessary for thorough and accurate veterinary diagnostic investigation using principles of clinical pathology, diagnostic pathology, microbiology, toxicology, endocrinology, virology, and molecular biology.

The department hosts many graduate students in the Veterinary Medicine and Comparative and Molecular Biosciences graduate programs pursuing advanced degrees in the areas of comparative medicine, pathology, surgery, radiology, anesthesiology, population medicine, infectious diseases, theriogenology, and molecular biology.

The department also provides residency training (often in combination with graduate training) in large animal medicine, surgery, theriogenology, veterinary preventive medicine, anatomic pathology, and dairy production medicine.
